The Associated Colleges (ACI) with the support of AT & T has a Teaching and Learning Mentor Program (TLM).

Two McKendree University Faculty Participate in AT & T Associated Colleges of Illinois Faculty Development Technology Program

On September 9, 2006 Tami Eggleston, Associate Professor of Psychology and Brenda Boudreau, Associate Professor of English participated in a faculty development workshop at Millikin University.  The workshop brought together faculty and staff from colleges and universities across Illinois all interested in how to best integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.  This workshop dealt specifically with issues that need to be addressed in part because of increased technology in education.  Brenda Boudreau presented on the topic of plagiarism and Tami Eggleston presented on the topic of intellectual property rights.  Boudreau said, “with all the benefits of technology, there are also some potentially negative issues such as plagiarism and violating copy right law to address.”

In the past, the AT & T/ACI workshops have addressed digital portfolios, hands-on training in software tools, effective use of course management systems such as Blackboard, and using such things as BLOGS to learn.  The program employs a variety of formats, including hands-on and interactive presentations, access to re-usable resources expressly designed for sharing with other faculty, and presentations from national technology experts.

Since its inception, the AT &T /ACI Faculty Development Technology Program has reached more than 4,000 faculty from all ACI member colleges, developing a strong corps of technologically-sophisticated experts.

“The AT & T/ACI Faculty Development Technology Program has been extremely beneficial to me, personally, and to McKendree College,” says Tami Eggleston, associate professor of psychology, McKendree College. “Brenda Boudreau and I continually share what we have learned in a variety of ways. With faculty members so busy with teaching and research responsibilities, the program allows us to stay on top of new technologies that can influence education.”

The Associated Colleges of Illinois is extremely grateful to AT & T for their extraordinary generosity and ongoing professional counsel, which will have long-term benefits for ACI members.

Current issues in intellectual property and copy right issues

1.)  Each school should have a workshop on copyright and intellectual property.

2.)  Each school should look at the current intellectual property policy (committee, campus lawyer, AAUP guidelines).

3.)  Ongoing and tricky issues will emerge.
